With so much happening, including over a hundred free events throughout the year, we’ve put together a list of our top five favorite Cherokee summer experiences that your whole family will enjoy.

Each year, outdoor drama “Unto These Hills” presents a powerful retelling of the story of the Cherokee people in the Eastern region up and through the forced removal in 1838 known as the Trail of Tears. The 2018 season in Cherokee, NC, runs from June 2 to August 18, with shows at 8 p.m. each night, except Sundays when the theater is closed.

Visiting Cherokee this fall? Get tickets for “The Sleepy Hollow Experience,” a spooky, outdoor immersive theater production at the Mountainside Theatre, home of “Unto These Hills.” “The Sleepy Hollow Experience” will run Thursday through Sunday from October 17 to November 3 with performances from 7–8:30 p.m and 9:30–11 p.m. It's the Halloween event of the year! 

Even though the production of Unto These Hills is cancelled this year due to COVID-19, 2020 still marks 70 years of celebrating Unto These Hills. As one of the oldest running outdoor dramas in the United States, Unto These Hills remains one of the most popular and beloved attractions in Cherokee. For many of the actors and staff of Unto These Hills, being a part of the production has changed their lives.
